Most Middle TN forestry mulching runs about $1,500–$5,000 per acre (Back 40, Sep 2026). Dense cedar, rocky ground, or heavy vines sit toward the high end of that range. Per-acre averages mislead on small jobs — machine time drives the quote [1]. A Nashville-area mulching firm puts heavy cedar at about $3,000–$4,000 an acre, inside that same band [2].
Example: 3–10 acres at about $2,800/acre is roughly $8,400–$28,000 (our arithmetic from the range above, not a quote).
Local rules worth knowing
- Over 1 acre of clearing or grading usually triggers a land disturbance permit (Rutherford County; Gallatin's stormwater ordinance) [3][4].
- Burn season: Oct 15 – May 15 you need a one-day TN Division of Forestry burn permit for debris piles; some cities and counties have stricter rules [5]. Forestry mulching grinds brush in place — no burning, no hauling.
Jobs the contractor can quote

Questions the contractor will ask
These help the contractor give you a closer number:
- About how many acres?
- Light brush, mixed, or heavy cedar?
- Mulch in place, or haul off?
- Is there a building site or fence line to work around?
No photo upload yet; the contractor can ask for photos when they contact you.
